Go Ape 

Home to 2 of the longest zipwires in the UK, when you take Go Ape’s Treetop Challenge you will find yourself 45 metres up in the tree canopies then flying through the forest, over waterfalls and streams on the 426-metre downward zipwire. There is a choice of 2 routes – one more challenging than the other.

Other features on the challenge are extreme Stirrups, wobbling Stack Line and teetering Half Trapeze. Not suitable for children under 10. Minimum height 4ft 7”, Max weight 20.5 stone. Supervision required for under young people under 16.  Allow 2-3 hours. Parking is available onsite.

Take A81 from Callander to Aberfoyle, then follow brown signage for Forest Park Visitor Centre. Head up the hill to The Lodge Visitor Centre Car Pak and then continue on foot to the Go Ape Cabin.  

Forest Lodge Visitor Centre 

This Visit Scotland 5-star rated visitor attraction celebrates the great outdoors. With 4 signposted trails offering easy, moderate and strenuous walks and climbs through the Queen Elizabeth Forest there is also a red squirrel hide and live wildlife camera feeds. You can also test your navigation skills by picking up a free orienteering map which will take you to parts of the forest most visitors don’t visit. 

Refreshments are available from the café and there Is a picnic area. Easy Access is available for wheelchair users and there are toilets onsite. To get there, take A81 from Callander to Aberfoyle, then follow brown signage for Forest Park Visitor Centre. Head up the hill to The Lodge Visitor Centre Car Park.  

Go Country

Based on the shore of Loch Ard and with its own waterpark, Go Country offers families a huge range of time-limited activities, making it easy to plan your day out. The water park offers 10-minute rolls on the aquatic hamster ball, hour-long cliff jumping, paddle boarding, guided canoeing, orienteering and cliff jumping as well as 2.5-hour gorge walking treks. Those who prefer to stay on dry land can take part in archery, mountain biking, climbing and abseiling sessions or go on all-day hillwalking or orienteering trips.

To get there from Callander take the A81 to Aberfoyle then the A821 through the village and then follow the B829 to the Forest Hills Activity Centre 

Castle Rednock Trekking Centre

This family owned farm has offered pony trekking for the past 20 years and has now branched out to include segway trekking, Quad pods (for young children) Shetland pony driving, riding lessons and orienteering as well as offering a play barn for groups of children. Weight and age limits apply. Payment by cheque or cash only. 

To get there from Callander take the A81 towards Aberfoyle and then the A821 towards Aberfoyle.   

Glen Finglas 

The Glen Finglas Estate is the largest of the estates within the Great Trossachs Forest at 12,044 acres. There are 10 trails within the estate, all of which can be accessed from the visitor centre. The Glen Finglas Play Trail is great for children, with activity centres, secret dens and immersive artworks designed to keep them engaged and entertained.

Among the wildlife you can expect to find within the estate are: red squirrel, red kite, pine marten, tawny owl, great spotted woodpecker, field vole, fox, badger, buzzard, siskin, green woodpecker, treecreeper, nuthatch, cuckoo, song thrush, red deer, roe deer, osprey and golden eagle. The visitor centre is open from April to October, 7 days a week between 10:00 – 16:00.

To get there take the A84 (west) from Callander to Kilmahog and then turn left onto the A821, The Little Drum car park is 4.7 miles on the left. The Lendrick Hill car park and visitor centre is ½ a mile further along, on the right. Details of the forest trails can be found here.
