Fishing and the law
Rules for fishing will vary, depending on location. We have provided details of where to purchase fishing permits for local lochs and rivers on this page. Where to fish in the Trossachs
River Teith at Callander
Anglers can find salmon, sea trout and brown trout. Permits are available online from Fishing Around the Forth.
Loch Lubnaig
Anglers can fish for wild salmon and trout, perch, arctic char subject to purchasing a permit. These can be purchased from James Bayne or: Cabin at Loch Lubnaig
Loch Venachar
The loch is well stocked with brown trout, pike, salmon and sea trout. A permit is required to fish the loch, boats can be hired from the bailiff. See here for fishing regulations and where to purchase permits.
Loch Voil & Loch Doine
Anglers can fish for Salmon, brown trout, sea trout, ferox trout and arctic char, However fishing permits are site specific. Details can be found here
Loch Ard Anglers will find the loch stocked with brown trout, perch and pike and wildlife residents include roe deer, red squirrels and capercaillie. Camping nearby is at Loch Chon Campsite. Permits are required and can be booked online here
Loch Chon Fishing for perch and pike is available all year (with a permit) but the brown trout season is restricted to between March 15th and October 6th. Additional conditions apply to seasonal fishing, details of which can be found here
Loch Earn
Anglers can fish for brown and rainbow trout, with a permit. Permits are only available from selected outlets, details here
Lake of Menteith
Anglers will find rainbow and brown trout in the lake, but fly fishing is only permitted from a boat. Details here
Loch Achray
The loch holds brown trout, pike, perch and ‘perhaps’ brown trout and salmon. Permits are available from Fishing Around the Forth.
